Matthew Houde & Jennifer Turnbull

Together since they met in Maine in 1997, Jennifer and Matthew finally wed in 2006 and now live in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Although their respective careers as attorney and landscape-construction manager could not differ more, their collaborative writing style that mixes creative and technical writing is fun and informative. Matt and Jenn get back to Costa Rica for vacation whenever they can. Their love for Costa Rica is celebrated in the travelogue Two Weeks in Costa Rica.

On Writing Two Weeks in Costa Rica

Matthew Houde

Co-writing Two Weeks in Costa Rica was a great way for me to forget about the daily grind and unwind from a stressful day. An amazing vacation has that effect, but surprisingly, writing about one does too. Though the writing and editing process took longer than we thought, it was a great joy to re-live those unbelievable Costa Rican adventures over and over.

Jenn and I have had some of our happiest times while traveling in Costa Rica and by closely examining and writing about them, we have come to appreciate that time together even more. There are so many beautiful places and friendly people in Costa Rica; we are happy to share our story with you.

I hope you enjoy every page.
-Matt

Jennifer Turnbull

When you’ve known someone for 15 years, there usually aren’t too many surprises. You think that you know just about everything about the other person—at least that’s what I thought. But collaborating together on Two Weeks in Costa Rica showed me sides to Matt that I had never seen before.  I knew that he is creative, intelligent, and witty, but never had the chance to see that come across in writing. Writing the book gave me that opportunity. I always enjoyed reviewing his edits to see what humorous language he had come up with or how he had gracefully solved a transition problem we were having. As a grammar geek, I must admit that it was also a bit surprising to see him correct my grammar and get excited about punctuation.

I hope that you enjoy reading the story of our great adventures in Costa Rica. We’re planning to continue the Travelogue Adventures series, so keep an eye out for what’s to come.
-Jenn
