Ecocentro Danaus Guided Tour
Ecocentro Danaus is a small nature reserve right outside downtown La Fortuna. It’s a great place to bring younger children or anyone looking for a short walk to see wildlife.
As you follow the well-maintained path through the thick jungle, you’ll come to a couple of frog ponds, a large pond where you can sometimes see caiman (small crocodiles), a butterfly enclosure, and a Maleku indigenous house with artwork on display.
For wildlife, it’s possible to see sloths, lizards, toucans, agouti, poison dart frogs, and birds (it’s an open reserve- the animals come and go and are not caged). All along the trail are beautiful flowers and plants, giving it a garden-like feel.
The trail is very short (1 km/0.6 miles) and flat so good for just about anyone.
Although you can visit Ecocentro Danaus your own without a guide, we highly recommend a guided tour to see the most wildlife. The guide will not only be able to spot wildlife, but will have a scope that will help you see animals like sloths that are high up in the rainforest canopy.
