Kids Saving the Rainforest 1-Day Volunteer Tour
Kids Saving the Rainforest is a wonderful wildlife center outside Quepos that rescues and rehabilitates rainforest animals that have been injured, orphaned in the wild, or held illegally as pets. It’s also a good way to see wildlife close up. The Center is about 20 minutes from Manuel Antonio.
A regular tour of the facility is a great experience if you’re short on time, but for an even closer look at the wildlife, they offer a volunteering tour.
This starts with the regular tour of the Kids Saving the Wildlife sanctuary. Some of the animals you will see are five types of monkeys, including spider monkeys, white-faced monkeys, squirrel monkeys, tamarins, and marmosets. You also can see other animals like sloths, kinkajous, anteaters, and parrots. You’ll get the story behind each one and learn how they are being helped.
Once the regular tour is over, you’ll enjoy a homemade lunch at the onsite restaurant. After, the volunteering portion will begin. You’ll be able to prepare food for the animals based on their special diets and feed some of them. You’ll also prepare enrichment activities, clean the enclosures, and help with any other activities that may be needed that day. Note that while you will be able to get close to the animals, you won’t be able to hold them per Costa Rican law.
Children need to be at least 7 years old for this tour. If you have kids younger than 7, we recommend the shorter sanctuary tour.
Cost: $100 per person plus 13% tax. Proceeds go to the animals.
Offered: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Closed Mondays.
Duration: 6 hours (approximate)
Includes: Snack (fresh fruit), drinks, lunch, and use of pool after the tour if desired.
