Nature Hike to Private Reserve – Samara
This is a nice nature hike near Samara. We work with an excellent local naturalist guide for the tour. He takes you to his family’s 247 acre (100 hectare) private reserve a few miles outside downtown Samara.
Your bilingual guide will take you through the thick tropical forest in search of wildlife. Animals that can be spotted include howler and white-faced monkeys, coati (raccoon-like animals), raccoons, peccary (wild boar-type animals), bats, toucans, owls, and many other kinds of birds. On the rustic trail, you’ll see giant, mature trees (some 300+ years old) and lush tropical plants as well as butterflies and interesting insects.
The trail is a loop and crosses a small river in a few places (only a dry riverbed in dry season – December through April).
The hike is about 2.5 km (1.5 miles). It’s easy in difficulty but there are roots and rocks to traverse in a few places.
