We’re two couples (4 people total) in our mid late 40s and early 50s traveling to CR in April. We will be flying in to SJO and flying out of Liberia. We will be renting a car in Golfito. Our Itineraries are: Bellavista Finca for 2 nights, Manuel Antonio for 3 nights, Jaco for 1 night, Montezuma for 3 nights and Tamarindo for 4 nights.
We like to do activities such as horseback to a fall, ATV, zip lining, river tour, snuba/snorkeling and etc. Our questions are how do we spread out the activities throughout the different locations. Need to know best location to do certain activities?
Also, should we spend more time in certain location than others? While staying in Manuel Antonio, we were thinking of visiting Naucaya falls near Dominical – do you recommend doing this?
We were thinking of driving from Jaco to Puntarenas and take the ferry over to Paquera and then drive to Montezuma in one day. Would we have enough time to do this or do you recommend staying overnight near Puntarenas in order to catch the ferry and get to Montezuma before sunset?
We are thinking of retiring in CR someday and will also be scouting real estate properties and was wondering which areas are best to search in. We like an area that has cooler temperature, less developed, has good restaurants and music near by.
Thank you in advance for your advices and tips.
Hi Gwem,
That sounds like a nice itinerary. The Nauyaca is definitely recommended as a day trip from Manuel Antonio. It is one of the best waterfalls in the country. For your trip to Montezuma, you can definitely drive to Puntarenas and cross on the ferry the same day. No need to add a night in Puntarenas as long as you time the ferry ride right. For rafting, you’ll want to do that out of Manuel Antonio. Snorkeling is probably better from Montezuma (Isla Tortuga). Let us know of you need booking assistance with tours, we can help you figure it all out. Have a great time!
