Hey guys! Your site has been super helpful and I am so grateful that I found it!
I just finished my tentative itinerary for a two week trip. We will have a rental car. So far–our plan is San Jose to La Fortuna to Tortuguero to Puerto Viejo and then back across the country to drop off the car in San Jose. There we will bus/Ferry to Montezuma for the last leg of our trip.
We are spending an average of 2-3 days per place but we want to pick one place to spend a little more time to relax. Out of those places where do you think is the best place to spend the most time?
Initially I thought Montezuma because there is so much on that peninsula. However, we won’t have a car there. If that would be your choice–What is travel like/how should we get around?
Hi katiebeeks,
Since you won’t have a car and things are spread out on the Nicoya Peninsula, you might be better off spending the extra time in Puerto Viejo so that you can do some of the many activities there. You might want to drive up to Cahuita and check that out for a day trip too, since the national park is really good for wildlife. Puerto Viejo is also a great place to just relax. By the way, 2 days is perfect in Tortuguero so you don’t need any more time there. You can walk around much of Montezuma and there is a public bus that goes to the Cabo Blanco reserve. Have a good time!
