Busing from Monteverde to Golfito

My wife and I are planning a two week visit to Costa Rica for next winter.  After spending several days in Monteverde, we would like to take a bus to Puerto Jimenez.  I would like to stop for the night in Quepos and then stop again at Golfito. We would take the ferry to Puerto Jimenez and stay four nights.   Our return route has us spending a night in San Isidro de El General before returning to San Jose.  Would you want to spend the night near the airport. I\’m having troubling finding bus route information without returning to San Jose.  I would very much like to travel along the west coast.  Is such an itinerary possible? Thanks,  Duane

Hi Duane,
You can definitely do this all by bus but you’ll need to switch buses several times so those travel days will be long. For example, there is a bus that goes from Monteverde to Puntarenas, then you’d get off and wait for another bus that goes from Puntarenas to Quepos. Same thing going south to Golfito. You’d have to switch somewhere (Uvita or Palmar Norte maybe) and then go the rest of the way. On the way back, certain buses go up through San Isidro (one that we know of leaves from Uvita). Then from San Isidro, I believe the MUSOK bus company goes right to San Jose. We are definitely not experts on the bus but a couple of resources that might help you figure out the routes are the bus schedule website (http://www.thebusschedule.com/cr/index.php) and a Facebook Group called Costa Rica By Bus (https://www.facebook.com/groups/CostaRicaByBus/about/).
