DWQA QuestionsCategory: Moving to Costa Ricachoices-for-high-schools-in-heredia

Hello, I find your website very helpful.  I have a question, I used to live in Cost Rica, and got my permanent residency. I am planning to move back to the Heredia Area, do you know of good schools but that are affordable?  By the time I am moving my child will be going to 6th grade, but I have questions about going further to High School with American system that is affordable. Can they go to Costa Rican High School and do classes online? I really don’t have an idea.
By the way, I left Costa Rica on 2013, did not go back, do you know if a permanent visa will expire?  Thank you.

Hi Mary Ann,
We’re not too familiar with schools in the Central Valley and haven’t looked too much at the options for high schools. Our little one is only about 2.5 years old right now so luckily we have lots of time before then. Although time does go fast! There is a good Facebook group that might be able to help you. It’s called Families with Children in the Central Valley, or something similar to that. You can search for it on FB.
For your permanent residency, I do believe that you need to keep up with your renewals and CCSS payments (social security/healthcare). I think there might also be a requirement that you need to visit Costa Rica for at least a short period of time each year (but that might be a temporary residency requirement). Probably the best thing to do would be to talk with a residency lawyer and make sure you can get back up to date on everything. There is also a FAQ section on the migracion website that has quite a bit of info.
