One of the things we love most about travelling is learning about foods and bringing home spices. We are looking up farmers’ markets and would like to buy a cookbook in advance so we can try making local foods when we are there. Any suggestions? And would you buy the produce and spices from farmer’s markets? Are there any things we should be bringing with us to help us cook that are expensive there as compared to the US?
Hi adurfee,
We haven’t personally used any of the Costa Rican cookbooks that are available through amazon (there aren’t many) but this one might be worth a try. It is called Meals a la Tica: Costa Rican Cook Book. There isn’t much info available on this sale page but a forum we found mentions that it has some very authentic recipes like Arroz con leche or Limon style rice and beans. Depending on where you are visiting, you might also be able to find a cooking class. Hope this helps and you have some great meals!
