Hi Jenn and Matt! I’m currently planning my first trip to Costa Rica and your blog is being a tremendous help. I am planning to volunteer with an agency near San Jose before traveling around Costa Rica. They offer a 6-day mini adventure for the cost of US$1,050, and I’d like to know if the cost is reasonable or if it’s better to plan my own trip.
Their itinerary includes the Ram Luna cultural night of dinner and dancing in San Jose, a 3-in-1 tour visiting the La Paz waterfall gardens, Poas Volcano and a coffee plantation tour, a day-long catamaran tour to Tortuga Island and 3 nights on the Pacific Coast near the famous Manuel Antonio National Park.
Please let me know what you think. Thank you so much for your time!
Hi cynthia,
The cost doesn’t sound outrageous. If private transportation is included in all that, it really adds up. Also, it depends on the hotel they have you staying at in Manuel Antonio. You could look up each tour, transportation option, and the hotel to see how it adds up. If it’s fairly close and everything is all arranged for you, that’s nice. But you could definitely do a lot for $1,050 on your own too and do things that are more in line with what you want to experience rather than what is being offered. Let us know how it works out.
