Hi Jennifer, we are a family of 4 (2 kids age 11 and 14) from Canada and we are currently staying in Manuel Antonio. We were supposed to drive down to Puerto Jimenez on Monday and spend 4 days there before we head back to San Jose, but the owner of the house we rented contacted us this morning to say that the roads and bridges to PJ have been washed out with Hurricane Otto and recommended we cancel our reservation there, which we sadly did. We’re considering maybe changing our reservation to Drake Bay if the Corcovado Park opens up again. We have loved our time in Manuel Antonio, but would like to explore a different area for our last few days in Costa Rica if we can’t do the Osa Peninsula. We have a rental car. Any suggestions? Your blog has been so helpful every step of the way in our planning! Thank you! Lisa
Hi Lisa,
Sorry to hear that you had to cancel the Puerto Jimenez leg of your trip. Hopefully everything will be repaired there soon! Yes, Drake Bay would be a great destination. They were impacted a little bit by the rains but I don’t think it was as bad. Drake Bay has a similar (maybe more) remote feeling to PJ. Other ideas would be to visit the Costa Ballena area (Dominical/Uvita), just 45 min to 1 hr south of Manuel Antonio. Or maybe the cloud forest up in San Gerardo de Dota? Hope this helps, have a great time whatever you decide!
