Manuel Antonio vs Puerto Viejo

Thank you for your great and helpful advices! We are coming to Costa Rica on a vacation on February for two weeks. Planning to spent 4-5 days around Monteverde and Arenal and after that at the coast. We are wondering between Manuel Antonio and Puerto Viejo. How is the weather on the easter coast? Is it raining every day? It would be great to snorkel from the beach, on a calm water. Do you think it would be possible on MA or PV? And what would be the easiest way to travel from Monteverde to Puerto Viejo?
Thank you so much,
Pauliina

Hi Pauliina,
It shouldn’t be raining too much on the Caribbean coast in February, however the waves are typically larger that time of year (better for surfing) so good snorkeling conditions might be harder to find. So you might be better off visiting Manuel Antonio. You can snorkel from the beaches inside the National Park or at Playa Biesnaz. Conditions aren’t spectacular but it can still be fun. You could also do snorkeling as part of a catamaran tour, which we did recently and you can read about here. If you want the best snorkeling, you’d have to catch a tour to Cano Island from Uvita (about 1.25 hours south). If you need help setting one up, let us know.
