Hi we are visiting CR for our first time for 2 weeks, arriving mid May. We want to raft the Pacuare River, visit Manuel Antonio Park, possibly Arenal. We want to include some days at a nice beach but unsure if to make the journey to Peninsula de Osa or Peninsula de Nicoya. Do you have any recommendations? Would the probability of getting more rain be higher in Peninsular de Osa? Or any other recommendations that you think better. Also would we need a 4WD or 2WD
Hi Lindy,
The probability of more rain might be slightly higher on the Osa in May but not by much. Both have some nice beaches. You could check out our post on Drake Bay or Puerto Jimenez (both on the Osa) and Samara or Montezuma (both on the Nicoya) to compare what each one offers. 4×4 would be recommended for Montezuma. It is best to not drive to Drake Bay and take a boat shuttle instead (details in the Drake Bay post). Otherwise 2-wheel drive can be fine for the other destinations depending on the location of your hotel and the activities you do. Hope this helps you decide.
