Poas volcano – is it open?

Yes, Poas Volcano has been active lately and they have closed the national park until further notice. You can usually walk right up to the edge of the crater but since it is occasionally shooting off gas, steam, rocks, etc. it would be really dangerous for visitors. The towns near Poas Volcano are still fine to visit however, so if you are looking to visit La Paz, do a coffee tour in the area, etc, that should be fine.
