My wife and seven year old son are exploring the possibility of moving to Costa Rica. We are interested in a school for my son that gives him access upon graduation to attend an American university. We found an interesting school in the PLaya Conchal area of Guanacaste. We assume that living inland from the beach will lower the cost of purchasing a lot to build a home on. Is this possible? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Joshua,
That’s great that you found a school you like for your son. Our advice would be to just rent at first to find the right neighborhood and location. You may have to move around a few times (or more) to find something that you like. It can be very hot in Guanacaste, and even being at the top of a small ridge might not give much relief in the hottest months. Renting will also allow you to make sure that both the school and country are the right fit for you. A lot of people that move here only last a couple of years and then decide to move onto something else. Putting down a lot of money right away to purchase and then build a home could be trouble if you decide later it’s not right. Renting can be affordable, especially once you get down here and start talking to people in the area. Hope this helps!
