rainy season in Drake Bay?

DWQA QuestionsCategory: Itinerary Questionsrainy season in Drake Bay?

I’m trying to decided whether to go to Drake Bay (my preference) or Arenal  for 3 nights during our 2 week July/ August vacation.  I’m concerned that the rain may make it difficult  to view wildlife and also make it unlikely that we will be able to snorkel at Cano island.  We love to bird watch and do nature photography.
What do you think?
We also plan to go to the Central Pacific coast and Torteguero for the remainder of the trip.
Thanks for your help.

Hi birdgirl,
July and August aren’t usually that rainy on the southern Pacific coast so I would say go for Drake Bay to see amazing wildlife and a lot of great birds. Cano is also pretty far offshore so doesn’t get clouded as easily as snorkeling spots that are closer to the river outlets etc. We are birders ourselves and have seen so many awesome species in Drake Bay and at Sirena Ranger Station, you will love it. Also, if you are hitting up the central Pacific coast, be sure to stop for some Birding at Carara National Park. It sits in a transition zone so has some species that are usually found up in Guanacaste too. Best of luck!
