Snorkeling trip

tlehnen asked 8 years ago

Your site has been so helpful, thank you for all the information! We will be in the MA area the first week of March and are looking for a decent snorkeling trip. I realize the snorkeling isn’t as good as the Caribbean, but we have two friends who have never been before so they are very excited to try it 🙂 We have a car so travel is possible and we can head towards Jaco or down towards Uvita. We took a trip from Montezuma two years ago that stopped at an island for lunch and it was pretty reasonable. There are six of us – two parents and four teenagers – so we are hoping not to get too pricey. Thanks for any help!

Hi tlehnen,
The snorkeling around Manuel Antonio isn’t the best but it can still be fun. Luckily for you, March is usually really dry so as long as the ocean isn’t too rough, you should have good conditions. Locally, you can go out on one of the catamaran cruises, which includes a short snorkel stop for about an hour. We wrote about our experience on one and included a video of the snorkeling here: Manuel Antonio Catamaran Cruise. If you go down to Uvita, you have a couple of different options. You can do a Kayak or Sup tour around the Whale Tail, which includes some snorkeling. Or you can go out on a Whale/Dolphin watching boat, which also does a stop for snorkeling. We know a couple great companies for either one if you want help booking. The best snorkeling is probably out at Cano Island but it is a long boat ride from Uvita and sounds like it might be out of your budget with the big group. Hope this helps, let us know if you need more help.
