We’ll be flying into San Jose and then spending 3-4 days in La Fortuna to take advantage of things to do in that area before heading for the remaining 5 days to Jaco where we\\\’ll be renting a condo on the beach. I’m just not sure about renting a car and doing all the driving.
Would we be better off with private transportation to La Fortuna, doing activities there and then again, private transportation to Jaco? What would be recommended for types of transport and costs? Thank you, Diane
Hi Diane,
It really depends on where you are staying and what activities you are doing. Things in both La Fortuna and Jaco can be a little spread out so it is nice to have a car at times (especially in La Fortuna, where restaurants and attractions are farther from most hotels). A lot of tours include transport though, so if you are doing scheduled activities every day, you might not need your own car as much. As for the price comparison, you can check out car rental prices on our Car Rental Discount Page and private transfer prices on our Shuttles Page. A mix of both is also an option. Some people take shuttles for the longer distances and then rent a car for a few days in each destination, depending on their schedule of things.
